Clara's First Soccer Practice

Clara was supposed to have her first soccer practice on Monday but it got rained out. She was pretty bummed about it and rain was threatening today as well. They did get practice in and I think she had a good time. I think she is the smallest in her team of 4-5 year olds. She was pretty good at running after the ball and would get to it first but would often let the other person take it from her.  At one point when they were kicking it into the goal she came and told me she couldn't do it. I told her to keep trying and get finally got it in on her third try. I think she is going to be a little social though. Her friend Eleanor was on the field beside us and she kept yelling for her and waving. It should be fun and entertaining to say the least.

Cub Scouts

John had his first pack meeting for Cub Scouts last night. He has been asking for 3 years when he could do scouting. I guess that is what happens when you go to your uncles' Eagle Scout ceremony when you are three. It was mainly about selling popcorn and we had to leave early since Clara had soccer practice (that got rained out by the time we got there.) This boy is ready though.

Clara's First Day of Pre-K

Clara had her first day of preschool. I can't believe my big girl is going to 4-year-old Pre-K. Crazy!! She did great! One of her part-time assistant teachers stopped me in the hall afterwards to tell me she had been teaching there for several years and she has never seen anyone do so well on their first day. She said she listened so well and was such a good helper. That made this mommy proud!!

John's First day of First Grade

John had his first day of school last Tuesday. I think he was actually excited to go to school this year which was big. He has had a great first week.

His request for the first day of school was turkey bacon, homemade buttermilk waffles, and green tea.

 Off to First Grade

 My sweet boy!
John's new school is really close to our house. It is nice to take a 5 minute walk to school.

Swimming Time

We spent a lot of time swimming while in San Antonio since it was so hot.

These are from the pool at Fort Sam Houston. Seriously, this pool was awesome!!! John had to take a swimming test of swimming half the length of an Olympic size pool in 45 seconds in order to be able to do the slides.

Dad even took a turn on the rock wall.

Alamo (Again) and the Riverwalk

We went back to the Alamo on a weeknight evening about an hour before they closed and it was perfect! There weren't many people and we talked to several of the workers and they gave us all kinds of information and more details on the Alamo.
We totally missed this the last times we have been at the Alamo. This is the spot they believed Davy Crockett to have died. The side of the fort he was protecting was never crossed and he went to the other side to help and they believed he was shot going over there.
My little Davy Crockett lover was fascinated with this.
