San Antonio Children's Museum

I love that as an Army family we have friends in so many different places. One day we met up with my friend Laura and her two kiddos at the San Antonio Children's Museum. I didn't get any pictures of her and her kids because once she got there we were talking and I didn't really think about it. So over the 10 days we were there I got to see three friends, I just ran into my friend Lauren Lea at the mall 40 minutes away while she was visiting family. Craziness! Burt's cousin was also in a class at Fort Hood so we met him for dinner one night in Austin. Here are a few pictures from the Children's Museum.

Quadrangle

John spent the night with his friend Gabe while we were in Texas so the next day we met up with Gabe and Wendy again. We visited the Quadrangle at Fort Sam. It is the oldest structure at Fort Sam and also housed Geronimo and other Apaches that were captured with him while the federal governement were trying to decide if they were prisoners of war or just common criminals. The neat thing about the Quad is there are all these animals walking around; peacocks, geese, deer, and they come right up to you. There are offices in the old fort so there are always people around.

The bell tower, legend has it that Geronimo jumped from the balcony you see at the top and survived.

San Antonio Zoo

While Burt was in class we found plenty to keep us busy. On Monday, we met up with John's bud Gabe and his mom Wendy at the San Antonio Zoo. They are members of the zoo so we got in early before it was too crowded and hot.

Here was the highlight, feeding the Lory birds. They kids loved this!! So much that now John wants one.

Clara did not like the one that landed on her head and was over it when it did.
 They had great animals!

Even these two monkeys were an attraction :)

They had a water area that we didn't really know about but the boys didn't mind getting wet in their clothes.

The Alamo

One of our main agenda items while in San Antonio was to go to the Alamo. John loves Davy Crockett so the Alamo was #1 on his list.

John in front of the monument to those who lost their lives in the battle directly under Davy.
 Clara at the monument.
John and Clara in front of a cactus in the gardens at the Alamo.
Can you tell John didn't want his picture made?
Me and my sweeties (John still not wanting his picture made.)

Sea World - San Antonio

We just got back from San Antonio where we spent 10 days visiting Burt while he is there at training. Our first full day we took advantage of Sea World allowing military and three family members in free.
